From inception, the ethos of Island Fisheries has been to practice fishing techniques that will ensure future generations of American Samoans with healthy and sustainable fisheries in our waters. Cultural preservation and a light environmental footprint are therefore core to the operations and business practices of Island Fisheries. The founders created Island Fisheries to demonstrate proof of the concept that indigenous fishing methods, by definition sustainable, could provide both local food security and offer a cost-effective alternative for global consumers seeking both quality and environmental responsibility.

Island Fisheries measures success not in fish caught or revenue on a balance sheet, but in promoting understanding, education, training, and sharing of resources to help other fishing concessions achieve sustainability. Learn more here on why the founders started Island Fisheries.
